What Typing Improver stores, who processes it, why, for how long, and how to export or delete it.

Who is responsible

The controller of your personal data is Kostiantyn Palianychka, who runs Typing Improver at typingimprover.com. Email: k.palyanichka@gmail.com.

Without an account

You can practise without an account. Your lessons, including what you type and the timing of every keystroke, your settings and any texts you import stay in this browser (IndexedDB and localStorage). They are not sent to us.

Texts you import from your device are never uploaded. If you import from a GitHub link, your browser fetches the files directly from GitHub, which sees your IP address.

With an account

An account is optional and exists to sync your practice between devices. To create one we store your name, email address and a hash of your password (never the password itself).

Once you are signed in, your lessons are synced to our server: the raw keystrokes of each lesson (the text you typed and its timing), the statistics computed from them, and your settings.

For each sign-in we store a session with its expiry, your IP address and your browser's user agent, to keep you signed in and to protect the account.

The operator can see an activity report listing each account's email, sign-up date, number of lessons and last activity. It is used to run and improve the service, not for advertising.

Analytics and advertising

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-GZ40QQJ8PD) and Google Ads (tag AW-18520843554) to count visits and to measure sign-ups and finished lessons. What you type and its timing are never sent to Google.

Consent Mode v2 is on. Until you choose, and if you decline, these signals stay denied: ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization and analytics_storage, and Google may receive only cookieless pings. If you allow them, all four are granted and Google may store cookies such as _ga.

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without identifying you.

Cookies and browser storage

Necessary: a session cookie set when you sign in, which keeps you signed in. It is not used for advertising and needs no consent.

Preferences in localStorage: theme, design, keyboard style and your analytics choice (key analytics-consent).

With your consent only: Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies.

Why we process data (legal bases)

Providing the trainer and an account you asked for: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.

Security, session records, cookieless statistics and the activity report: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Who processes it for us

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, the database and the lesson storage, and provides the cookieless statistics.

Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC provide Google Analytics and Google Ads.

Both may process data in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Synced lessons, statistics and settings: until you delete them or your account.

Account data (name, email, password hash): until you delete the account.

Sessions: until you sign out, or about seven days after the last use.

Google Analytics data: for the retention period set in Google Analytics.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing.

Most of this works without asking: Settings has “Export everything as JSON”, “Delete all data” (lessons here and on the server) and “Delete account” (removes your name, email, password and everything synced). For anything else, write to k.palyanichka@gmail.com.

You can lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

How to withdraw consent

Open Settings and turn off “Analytics and ads cookies”, or choose Decline on the banner if you have not answered yet. This sets the four signals back to denied, deletes the Google Analytics cookies and stores the choice under analytics-consent. You can also block cookies in your browser.

Children

Typing Improver is not meant for children under 16 to create an account without a parent's consent.
